From One Reading Teacher To Another

Do you ever wish novel study resources had…

• engaging options to explore a novel, minus the large packets?

• more chances to discuss literary devices throughout the WHOLE novel, not just certain chapters?

• the flexibility to change your discussion resource based on the needs of your group?

If you said yes to any of those, you and I are pretty similar…

After planning probably thousands of novel discussions while impacting countless readers over the last 18 years of teaching..

I got to a point where I realized novel study resources just don’t have what I am searching for.  It isn’t their fault.  The flexibility and thoroughness that I look for are hard to come by.

Let me back track.

It was that time of the school year…

My favorite novel study was just around the corner. The nerdy excitement I feel when my groups are about to embark on an awesome reading adventure was definitely there.

As I pulled out the next novel (Refugee by Alan Gratz) & scanned the packet my team and I used from last year’s discussions, I couldn’t help but think…

I want my students to LOVE reading this book!

These packets feel like busy work!

I could make something better!

And so I did!

The Refugee Task Cards were born from a true love of reading Refugee & bringing more of this book to light than any resource I could find on TPT.

These task cards dive deep into as many author’s craft devices as a teacher is willing to cover while also offering flexibility based on the chapter or literary device being covered.

More than just task cards…

These task cards also ignited a drive within me to build resources that offer more.

More times to chat about character development throughout the whole book.

More times to discuss themes as they naturally occur during an author’s piece of work.

More times to address conflicts and their benefits to develop the plot.

More times to analyze all that an author has to offer at the teacher’s discretion.

Teachers have enough on their plate.

Providing flexibility while also thoroughness is my endgame.

GIVING teachers something they can just roll out or CUSTOMIZE to fit their needs while exploring novels is what you will find in my task cards.

So, OPEN up a novel in a whole new way and WATCH as your readers see your favorite novel in a whole new light.

Make your next novel study more memorable!
