Playing Storm Clouds Away

Have you ever looked for resources that outline Isabel’s character from Refugee?

What about task cards that highlight Isabel’s kind, selfless, thoughtfulness throughout the WHOLE BOOK?

So many times, I’ve started up Refugee and had to create something that builds the character development throughout the WHOLE BOOK.

OR I’ve created something that identifies the use of symbols or motifs, or any other literary device, throughout the WHOLE BOOK.

Because, so many TPT resources only focus on character development or symbols during specific chapters. NOT THE WHOLE BOOK!

Why?

Here Comes the Sun…

The Refugee Task Cards offer so many options throughout the WHOLE BOOK, starting with character analysis, symbols, setting, themes, figurative language, etc. ALL during ch.1-3.

What about the rest of the book?

Not to fear, the WHOLE BOOK is broken down into as many literary devices as you could possibly want chapter by chapter with this bundle.

After all, you don’t want your students to miss out on any of the bigger symbols, or themes, or your favorite part.

Trying to be a rainbow in someone’s storm cloud…

For instance, let’s zoom into ch.14.

You know, the one when the group & reader realizes:

-how small the boat really is for Isabel and her loved ones

-that Fidel Castro is still with them along with the slogan “fight against the impossible and win”

-Lito’s flirtatious ways

-Isabel’s desire to stick up for herself and why she gave up her trumpet

-the trumpet and clave importance

-powerful figurative language examples

-and lots more…

Wouldn’t it be important to have a resource that supports ALL of these important ideas?

I thought so. Check out these task cards to get ALL the details for ch.14. Plus, Josef and Mahmoud’s chapter analysis…

Sometimes the brightest rainbow follows the darkest rainstorms

Chapter 50 deserves its own in-depth discussion. I have yet to find a resource that tackles ALL the topics necessary in this pivotal chapter, except for these Refugee Task Cards.

After all, Isabel and her mother overcome so many conflicts as Isabel’s brother is born and brought to America in Isabel’s loving arms. The tone, the symbols, the setting and imagery, not to mention the themes cannot be missed!

Printable task cards are available, but so are Google Slide and Google Form options for chapter 50 (along with all chapters in the Refugee Task Card set)

After all, the clave resides within you, Isabel…

Chapter 14 and chapter 50 are just two of the MANY chapters BURSTING with so MANY literary devices and topics to discuss.

Wouldn’t it be powerful to discuss any recurring symbol, or motif, as often as it occurs? Check out these 60 task cards for more opportunities to talk about manana, Cuba, trumpets, boats, oppressors, or any other important symbol.

Or better yet, get all of your literary devices covered either organized by the chapter or skill for the WHOLE BOOK!

There are no resources like these task cards. The sky is the limit when it comes to the discussions, small group or independent analysis, or even quizzes for the limitless Refugee content!
